Oral hygiene and dental health are important aspects of your overall wellness. If you don’t take good care of your teeth, it could lead to tooth decay and other problems that can cause inconvenience, pain, or even worse.
While we always suggest that patients commit to a regular flossing and brushing schedule, there are still going to be things that can’t be taken care of through these ordinary activities. Naturally, plaque and tartar will build up over time, and it requires professional dental cleaning to remove that from your teeth.
Dentists recommend that patients get a professional cleaning every 6 months. Consider it preventive maintenance. A quick visit to get your teeth cleaned twice a year can prevent you from having to go back for multiple painful hours-long visits due to surgery.
So what happens at a regular dental cleaning? A certified technician will use specialized dental instruments to carefully remove all plaque and tartar buildup. After that, your teeth will be polished. This last step is important because it helps prevent plaque from building up on your teeth.
If you are a new patient to our office, we have a simple intake process. We’ll ask you to provide some background information regarding medical matters, such as whether you or those in your family have a history of heart disease, gum disease, or oral cancer. This information helps us make sure that your dental cleaning appointment goes smoothly and is safe and comfortable as we can make it for you.
Because we want you to maintain a beautiful shiny smile after your dental cleaning, we might also recommend an oral rinse for you. This helps strengthen your teeth and gums, making them more resistant to bacteria. But either way, we always recommend regular flossing and brushing!
What is a Deep Dental Cleaning?
Sometimes, you might come in for a cleaning with more serious plaque and tartar buildup. For these cases, we offer a “deep dental cleaning.” In addition to everything that we do for you in a regular dental cleaning, we also perform teeth scaling and root planing where required.
Because regular cleaning is important to maintaining good dental health, we’re very happy to work with each of our patients on an individual basis to determine a teeth cleaning schedule that works for them.
Your First Appointment
We’ll remove the old filling. If there’s any additional decay, we’ll remove that too.
We make an impression of your teeth. Then, we make a model of your teeth, which is sent to the lab.
To protect your tooth, we’ll place a temporary onlay on it.
At the Lab: A resin is carefully placed into the model of your teeth. It is then designed to look natural.
Your Second Appointment:
We’ll remove the temporary onlay.
To prepare your tooth for the new onlay, we place a conditioning gel on your tooth to prepare it for the new onlay.
Bonding cement is applied to the tooth. To bond the resin to the tooth, a high intensity light is shined on it.
Finally, your tooth is polished.
The result? Your teeth’s natural look and feel is restored! Not only that, your teeth emerge stronger and better protected.
